Robert L. Lachance now has more than 30 years of professional experience in photography. As a freelancer, he has illustrated articles in major magazines such as Châtelaine, Québec Vacances, Le Magazine de la Place des Arts, Allure and Globe Trotter. As a photobased artist in Sherbrooke, working in both colour, black and white, and alternative processes, part of my exploration has been to push the boundary of what is perceived as photography, in an effort to create a vision of our world that absorbs the viewer, and transports them outside of themselves. Manipulating Polaroid film (also known as Time Zero), as well as the beginnings of some work in Polaroid emulsion transfers and lifts, much of my work blurs the line of what a photograph is. Perception is questioned. Hand manipulating Polaroid emulsion gives me a visceral and intuitive connection to my surroundings. Reality is no longer a crisp representation through the lens, but becomes an altered state; moving, yet static. An intimate 3 dimensional world of detail on the surface of the image belies what we are taught to experience within the 2 dimensional language of the camera. A visual tension is born, as glimpses of a "photographic reality" slip in and out of view, toying with what is known, perhaps reminiscent of a dream, a place of timelessness.

Pettit earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Minnesota, graduating cum laude in Art Education. After college Bev worked in fine art, technical and art education positions with a stint in teaching photography at a community college in California.

Deciding on photography as her artistic medium of choice came naturally when Bev moved to Hong Kong in 1991. Carrying a 35mm film camera was naturally compatible with her travel style as she backpacked the cities and back roads of Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, India and China. For the next six years she documented Asian culture for personal projects as well as magazines, HK tourism, commercial assignments and educational book publishers worldwide while working full-time as research print manager for a large American investment bank. In 1996 Pettit moved to London where she worked at the European headquarters for the bank for another three years.

She moved back to the US in 1999 to live in Northern Arizona. Today Pettit specializes in photographing horses, both domestic and wild.
