One of three brothers, Ross is a scion of generations of contrast. The son of a Brigadier and grandson of one of Scotlands greatest ever musicians on one side and the Grandson of a polo-playing colonial police commissioner on the other, he has invested his life in experiences.
He was educated at Fettes College in Edinburgh, won an Army scholarship to the University of York, where he graduated with honours in Philosophy. He then spent some years in the Queens Own Highlanders, serving amongst other places on the border between Hong Kong and China, in the jungles of Belize, heritage of Fort George in Scotland, the antarctic beauty of the Falkland Islands, planning beach assaults of Cyprus, working in the mountains and bushland of Zimbabwe teaching Mozambiquans to use Russian weapons to fight South African backed rebels and a couple of years operational duties in Northern Ireland, leaving the Army with the rank of Captain and an Irish Wolfhound called Humberstone.
