About the Photographer
I specialise in natural children's portrait photography. My emphasis is on environmental portraiture, and I shoot children and families in beautiful locations all over the UK. I have a strong documentary approach, and believe my best photos are achieved when a child is free to express themselves, and explore their environment. I also love working with natural light, and after 10 years of shooting children, I have learnt to use it to its full advantage. I am passionate about capturing the essence of a child, and work at building a relationship with them. I am very patient and unobtrusive, and don't believe in rushing the process - I allow the scene to take shape and unfold organically. My shoots can last anywhere from 2 to 4 hours.
In addition to children't portraits, I have also done shoots for children's clothing companies Cotton Stars and Kikido Clothing in South Africa, where I moved from in January 2009.
Since studying photojournalism at Rhodes University, I have had an interest in documentary photography. Published work includes: a photograph in the Fatherhood Project exhibition which was also published as a coffee table book; a series of images of Aurelia Mhlongo, South African woman of the year 2000, for a print ad for the Old Mutual Foundation; and fine art photos featured an issue of the Stinging Fly, an arts magazine based in Dublin.
Commercial work includes a shoot for Compleat Golfer, one of South Africa's top golfing magazines, and photographing Assagay coffee farm; Sunset Flowers farm and Bella Vista guest house for their websites and brochures.
Recently I was featured in Top Billing - the premier South African lifestyle tv program and magazine - for my fine art photos in The Hatchery, a guesthouse in KwaZulu Natal.
I have also sold many of my images as fine art prints.
