Born in New York City and raised in New England, he spent his formative years traveling through Europe. It was there he developed his continental visual style sense. Influenced by the portrait and fashion works of David Bailey, Scavullo, and Irving Penn, he started photographing people; at first family members and reluctant friends. Upon graduation from prep school, his father, a businessman, influenced him into pursuing a career in the world of science, leading eventually to his obtaining a finance MBA degree. Wanting to explore his artistic side, Jayson enrolled in a program in visual communications. There he was able to study photography and filmmaking; something he’d always wanted. While completing his masters, his portrait photography came to the attention of the publicity department at the American Shakespeare Theatre. Subsequently, Jayson was hired to shoot publicity and stage shots. While at AST he had the opportunity to meet and photograph many celebrities from both stage and screen. These include Lilly Palmer, James Earl Jones and Christopher Plummer. His work led to a 1981 commission to shoot Plummer’s portrait. Since then, Jayson has photographed such luminaries as: Paul Newman, Stephanie Zimbalist, Lee Richardson, John Lithgow, Victoria Tennet, Charles Keating, Bob Dylan, Dudley Moore, Jerry Stiller, and Jean Stapleton. His advertising fashion photography have appeared in such magazines as: Vogue, WWD, Esquire, Elle, GQ, Town and Country, and Deutsche Mode, to name a few. His fashion clients include Brioni, Givenchy and Donna Haeg. His corporate clients include, GTE, Olin Corp., Mobil Oil, and Deloitte.
